Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Autogenous Saphenous Vein Grafts in Femoropopliteal Bypass Procedures

چکیده
Do autogenous vein grafts provide resistance to graft infection in MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) patients undergoing vascular surgery? This paper presents two MRSA patients, who underwent femoral popliteal bypass procedure with autogenous saphenous vein grafts. Despite prophylactic measures and all necessary care, both patients had graft infections and died as a result of MRSA septicaemia. Our conclusion is that autogenous vein grafts do not provide resistance to MRSA infection. EJVES Extra 4, 58±60 (2002) doi:10.1053/ejvx.2002.0173, available online at http://www.sciencedirect.com on

An aggressive policy of bilateral saphenous vein harvest for infragenicular revascularisation in the era of multidrug resistant bacteria.
BACKGROUND The success of infragenicular revascularisation for lower limb ischaemia is limited by the high proportion of patients without ipsilateral long saphenous vein (LSV) of adequate length or quality. The aim of this study was to report the results of an autogenous vein only policy for infragenicular revascularisation utilising contralateral LSV when ipsilateral LSV is inadequate. The tre...

Infection of prosthetic peripheral arterial grafts continues to be a serious complication of reconstructive vascular surgery. Autogenous saphenous vein, while providing superior patency rates, is considered relatively resistant to infection. In the past decade, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has emerged as a major infection control problem in both hospitals and the community...

A 64-year-old man was referred to our hospital with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection following infrainguinal arterial reconstruction. As repeated MRSA sepsis occurred, we decided to remove the infected graft with distal revascularization via circuitous graft tunneling to avoid serious infections and allow limb salvage. An iliofemoro bypass was performed via an extra-...

Objective(s): During the last years with increasing resistant bacteria to the most antibiotics bacteriophages are suggested as appropriate treatment option. To investigate lytic activity of bacteriophages there are indirect microbial procedures and direct methods. The present study to complement microbial procedures and investigate ultra-structural characteristics of infection bacterium-phage u...
متن کاملMethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) an important microorganism: determination of its prevalence and evaluation of its associated factors in hospitalized dermatologic patients
Background: Methicillin–resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)has recently emerged as a worldwide major nosocomial pathogenthat causes significant morbidity and mortality. MRSA is frequentlycolonized on the skin. The aim of this study was to determinethe MRSA colonization/infection prevalence and to evaluatethe potential risk factors for its development in the hospitalizedpatients in a referral...
